I come here all the time. I might as well be Japanese. But since I'm not Japanese, I must have a good reason for coming here again and again. Firstly, honest to goodness awesome Japanese food. Fresh fish, talented cook. Not the best Japanese food as I've been to Japan, but oh boy it does come close. Prices are very reasonable too. Add that in with staff that already know me and can joke with me? It feels really comfortable to be here. Tori Karaage is my favourite here. I like mine dipped in their garlic cili padi soy sauce dip and I order it so much the staff sees me coming in and asks "Tori Kaarage right"? It's like my name is now Tori Karaage. Come. You might just like it here.
The Japanese food here is really awesome. I frequent this restaurant quite a bit. Food is great, price is also very reasonable. I tried their salmon set, tempura set, tempura prawn donburi, tori karage set, and all was amazingly good. The lady owner speaks Japanese and they have quite a bit of Japanese regulars, I guess the food they served here can't be far from authentic Japanese food. They close after 2pm and re-open at 6pm for dinner. If you come by during the weekend, there'll be a flea markets selling all sorts of vintage goods in the mall.
I came over to Amcorp mall for BookXcess and also The Curiosity Shop and was bummed by the food outlets they have here. Everything seems so dodgy and uninviting that I was thinking of settling for McDonalds for dinner. Then, I passed by this place. Ume Tei is unappealing and is very easy to miss when you pass by. However, the entrance of the shop was sticked with newspaper cuttting and the seats outside were filled. I reckon it wouldn't be that bad so I head right in for my dinner. The interior of the shop was a bit old and run down but there was this homey feeling to the place, like a shop that have been running for years and you can almost be sure that the food is amazing. I spotted a few Japanese having dinner here as well and I knew I have found the right place for dinner. Me and my friend ordered 2 sets of dinner, one Shake Sashimi set and another Tori Karage set and we are very, very impressed with how good the food is. My set was extremely delicious, the sashimi was fresh, rice nicely done and the steamed egg was soft with and blended perfectly with the soup and ingredients. I have not taste such perfect steamed egg in my life and I am very very serious. My friend's friend chicken was crispy, fragrant with Japanese seasoning but yet extremely juicy and moist. The stewed radish side dish must be cooked for hours because it is cooked till tender and the flavours of the seasoning seeped into every bite of radish. Simply amazing, and I would make it a point to come here for dinner again! Too good.
